Probetex, Inc. is Awarded an STTR Phase I Grant from the National Institutes of Health.

Probetex was awarded a one-year $149,000 grant to develop and test differentiation potential of three established embryonic kidney cell lines including rat and mouse metanephric mesenchymal and rat ureteric bud cells.  The embryonic stem cells will be tested for pluripotency to differentiate into adult kidney structures. Probetex, Inc. is Awarded an SBIR Phase II Grant from the National Institutes of Health.

Probetex was awarded a two-year $688,000 grant to continue its program to develop tissue products from renal disease.  The company will develop products for commercialization to aid researchers in investigating kidney disease. Products include tissue sections for histopathological analysis, tissue lysates, and isolated RNA for molecular biological assessment of a variety of experimental models of kidney disease. The models include immune-mediated glomerulonephritis, mesangioproliferative GN, diabetic nephropathy, lupus nephritis, renal fibrosis, and acute renal failure. In addition, the company will establish a cell bank to commercialize a variety of kidney cell lines including glomerular mesangial, epithelial, and endothelial cells and renal fibroblasts. More…

Rise in Kidney Failure Could Tax State Coffers

Rise in End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) is challenging state and federal health care programs. The article discusses the growing number of ESRD patients, the national costs of patient treatment , and availability of funds to treat this debilitating disease. Probetex is featured as a local biotechnology company with a mission to facilitate researchers in their quest to combat kidney disease by providing resources that are not readily available in their own laboratories. Also highlighted is Probetex's recent  partnering with the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio to license and develop a mouse, rat and human kidney cell lines.

Probetex licenses kidney cells for commercialization.

Probetex finalized agreements with the University of Texas Health Science Center to license 7 kidney cell lines. The cells include human and rat glomerular mesangial  cells,  bovine glomerular endothelial cells and rodent embryonic kidney stem cells.  More....

Probetex, Inc., will attend the American Society of Nephrology’s annual meeting in St. Louis, Mo. October 27-November 1, 2004. Curagen Corporation (New Branford, CT) in collaboration with Probetex will present a poster featuring gene expression analysis data derived from the anti-thy 1 model of mesangioproliferative glomerulonephritis. Probetex, Inc., a TEKSA Innovations Corp. Portfolio Company, has received seed capital from the National Institutes of Health and is graduating from incubation. Probetex now intends to function as an independent company as it further grows its experimental pathology services business. There is a significant need and market potential for readily available reagents and tissue products from established models and human cases of renal disease.  To address this deficit, Probetex was founded as a "Renal Research Resource Company" to create a repository of “off-the-shelf” tissue products from renal disease to provide readily available samples and help investigators to quickly and efficiently explore their research ideas. Start-up funds were awarded to Probetex to develop tissue products from three models of renal disease.  More……

Probetex participates with TEKSA Innovations, Our Lady of the Lake University with National Science Foundation Grant for Disadvantaged Students.

This summer, an innovative program in San Antonio is teaching economically disadvantaged high school students to learn web site design and development while giving college students an opportunity to manage a team.
